These cured products are defined as "articles" (29CFR1910.1200):
* "Which is formed to a specific shape or design during manufacture";
* "Which has end use function dependent upon its shape or design"; and.
* "Does not pose a physical hazard or heath risk"
As such, this MSDS is not required by OSHA
Section
III - Physical & Chemical Data
Physical State: Solid
Shapes; Varies
Specific Gravity: -1.2-1.5 Odor:
Characteristic of polymeric solid
Appearance: Black
Solubility in Water: Insoluble
Section
IV - Fire & Explosion Data
Flash Point:
Not determined
Extinguishing Media:
Use dry chemical.
foam,or Co2, or water spray
Flammable Limit:
Not determined
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Toxic Compounds; Co Co2, HS and HCN
can be released when involved in fire
Special Fire fighting
Procedures
Firefighters should wear turnout (impermeable clothing) and SCBA's as
customary with a rubber fire.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards
* Electrostatic buildup can be generated in rubber cured products,
specific grounding and bonding of product handling equipment is
recommended (if applicable)
* Avoid concentrations of airborne dust particulate that can develop
into an explosive condition
* Rubber burns with intense heat and produces dense smoke. During an
uncontrolled fire, incomplete combustion occurs which releases oil,
soot, (carbon black) and a range of hydrocarbon pyrolysis products.
Section
V - Reactivity Data
Stability:
Products are stable
at ambient temperatures and pressures.
Incompatibilities:
Strong Alkalis
Conditions to avoid: Excessive heat
Section
VI - Health Hazard Data
General
Toxicological information is not available for this product. This
health assessment is based on the information available for the
ingredients used in manufacturing cured rubber products
* Inadvertent heating of products to temperatures in excess of 200 C
(392F) may release vapors that are irritating to the eyes, lungs, and
skin.
* Anyone afflicted with chronic respiratory disorders may be adversely
impacted by exposure to fumes or airborne particles (nuisance dust) of
cured rubber.
Ventilation & Engineering Controls:
Local
Dust extraction while buffing, grinding, drilling or machining products
Respiratory Protection:
Non-Toxic particle face mask when fume/particulate is generated
Protective gloves and cloths:
Not required
Eye,face protection:
Safety Glasses - projectile hazard
Other protective equipment:
Not required
Section
VII - Handling & Storage
Accidental
Spills & Releases
Precautions to be taken
Store all products away from heat. General exhaust
ventilation is
in handling & storage
recommended if an odor is
generated as a result of exposure to
higher temperatures (>150 F).
Steps to be taken in case
A release of this
material would not ordinarily constitute
Material is released or spilled
an environmental hazard
Disposal of products as a solid waste should be in accordance with all
applicable
local, State, and Federal environmental rules and regulations
Section
VIII - Exposure Controls /
Personal Protection
Exposure limit cured products
None established. However, if products are cut, buffed,
drilled, heated etc.,
provide adequate ventilation in
order to remove hot smoke and fumes from the
work areas
Routes of Entry:
Inhalation of hot fumes may cause irritation to the
respiratory system
